F*cking focus

Do you ever feel like you have a hard time focusing? Like there’s so much to do and so little time? Like you’re doing 10% of many things instead of giving 100% to one thing and following it through?

During my coach training last year we were talking about what we needed in order to achieve our goals. My answer: F*cking Focus! Ha! The group challenged me to put post-its everywhere reminding me to—you guessed it—focus! And then an incredible thing happened. I f*cking focused! I set my phone timer for one hour. For just one hour I was not allowed to look at my phone, respond to emails, or do anything other than the task at hand...and guess what? It f*cking worked!

I know this is such a simple idea and many of you probably do this already, but if you're like me and you like shiny things, you might find it really helpful.

What do you need in order to achieve your goals?

If you're anything like me it's some serious F*cking Focus. Turn everything off, set a timer, and off you go. Remember that life is the cumulation of a whole bunch of actions. Every little step forward matters. It's easy to blame external circumstances for the undesirable places we find ourselves. In truth, we are the only ones standing in the way of our dreams. It's time to get out of our own way...

Life transitions can be lonely, and uncomfortable. Do you agree?

I’ve been in the middle of one for a while now. My desire to expand Joy is leading me to many new experiences and places. It is so beautiful and just like all change, it can also be scary.

There are times when I feel alone, and wonder if I’m doing the right thing. Most of the time I feel vulnerable and there are times when I feel judged. During these times, I find it helpful to reconnect with intention of my heart. I put faith into myself and life and continue to leap into the unknown. Like many other times in my life when I was given the option to grow, I know there are times when the path gets dark and things feel murky. And deep down, I know that I am on the right path.

If you are in transit, know that you are not alone. It will get better. On the other side, just beyond all of the discomfort is the shift. Where everything comes back into focus and all of this makes more sense.

You will get there one day. And this cramped in between will be meaningful. As for right now? Breathe. And then breathe some more.

You don’t always have to keep it together. You’re allowed to feel it. Whatever “it” might be. Even if it’s dark in there. The darkness is where we gather up our courage to step into the light.

You are incredible and stronger than you even know.

Can you hear the whisper of your heart? It’s asking you to reconnect with your intention.

The Art of Allowing


the art of allowing

According to The Law of Attraction, you get what you think about whether you want it or not. In this case, if you are focused on the lack of something i.e.:money, a better job, a partner, etc...then it may be challenging to attract what you are wanting.

The state of "allowing" is about aligning with the things you want to attract. It involves raising your vibrational level and consistently shifting your thoughts and emotions into the state of already having them.

For example, if you want more money, but are always thinking about how little money you have, then you are living in scarcity and it may be harder to attract abundance in this state. Energy flows where our attention goes. If we are focused on lack, then we will continue to experience lack.

The good news is that the opposite is also true! The better we feel, the more we are able to energetically attract better feeling experiences. 

You're probably asking, "so to apply the art of allowing and live our best freaking life we must live in the vibration of abundance?" The answer to that is YES! In order to experience abundance, you must first experience abundance. I know, it's a bit of a mind-f*ck, but trust me it works. I've experienced it personally many times AND I've witnessed countless clients, friends, and family members experience it as well.

When you feel abundant, abundance will flow to you. And as you become more aware of your emotions, you will know whether or not you are allowing. Because our emotions are our guidance system!

This week pay attention to your feelings. Notice where your attention is going. Are you in abundance mode or scarcity mode? Are you allowing or are you blocking the universe?

If you desire abundance, focus on appreciating the things that are currently contributing to feelings of abundance in your life. A regular gratitude practice is always a great way to raise your vibration.

Celebrate the Moment


Celebrate the MOment

I invite you to take a moment to celebrate the moment. How? With breath. I know, I know. It’s easier said than done. I really truly get it!!⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

I teach mindfulness humbly through my own practice. I teach and learn and re-learn and teach. And sometimes I fail – though I don't really believe in failure. I watched a video of Jon Kabat-Zin recently and loved his perspective around the practice. He began his lecture on the principles of teaching mindfulness with the question: are you living it?⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

The truth is, I try my best to live mindfully. Am I perfect at what I call The Joy Method? Nope. TBH, I don’t think I ever will be. I feel like part of being human means that we are continuously aligning with the truth of who we are. Which I believe is perfect, whole and complete. We have the opportunity to align with our nature through the practice. Which will look inherently different for everyone because all of us are different with unique journeys, lessons and gifts. ⁣⁣⁣⁣

⁣I’ve never claimed to be perfect. I don’t believe any of us are here to be perfect. I believe that we are here to give and experience love while living this wild life the best way we possibly can in any given moment. With breath. And compassion. Loads of it for ourselves and others. ⁣

We all f*ck up. Mindful and Joyful living is not about being perfect. Hopefully you're surrounded by people who understand this. If you're not then let me remind you that it's okay not to be perfect. Sometimes I need to remind myself of this too. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

I do this by coming back to this one moment. The only thing that really matters. Wishing you a mindful day, celebrating each moment with breath.

Resistance and Surrender

The theme this week is surrender. Before we talk about surrender, let’s talk about resistance. What is resistance really? Resistance is simply an expression of fear.

Where in your life are you resisting? What are you resisting?

As I continue to learn, grow and move through resistance, I can see that fear is not here to stop us. It is here to show us where we need to surrender and plug back in to the truth of who we are.

Fear is here to show us where we need to hold a higher vision for ourselves.

The truth is, we all just want to feel good! My question for you is: what if feeling good actually lies beyond the things that feel uncomfortable? Beyond the resistance. What if you could feel better than you ever imagined by letting go of the things, the habits, the resistance that might in fact be keeping you stuck. This is where surrender comes in.

This week if you are experiencing resistance, invite in surrender and watch what happens.

Courageous Curiosity

Where are you feeing poked, prodded or uncomfortable AF?

I believe these are clues as to what corners we need to shine some light on to. These are not just sh*tty things happening to us. These are OFG‘s baby! (Opportunities for growth;)

If we believe we should feel perfect and hunky-dory all of the time, well then we’re in for a painful ride. The belief that everything should feel good let me down a dark hole of feeling rotten. Enter addiction, shame, guilt, and in over all shit storm that lasted several years.

What I know to be true now is that on the other side of darkness is the light. The light I was chasing let me into the darkness. Now I see the darkness, the contrast if you will, as an opportunity to heal, grow, shift, and expand, and honestly it’s a completely different experience.

The ability to lean into the fear is what will allow us to come out on the other side.

What is the yucky feeling, whatever it may be, here to show you and teach you? What are you avoiding or denying? It could be something as simple as denying ourselves whatever it is we truly desire. These things don’t have to be gigantic life-changing ah-ha’s! Sometimes they are a simple knowing within yourself.

Perhaps these triggers are here to show us where we can take baby steps towards more. More compassion. More peace. More alignment. More joy!

Because Joy doesn’t always live in the LOL‘s, and bright shiny days. Often Joy lives beyond the things that we have the opportunity to move through. Often joy requires courageous curiosity. The next time you have a yucky feeling, can you ask it what are you here to show me? Then, listen for the answer.

On Joy

On Joy.

It isn’t always easy.

Sometimes you need to make time for it, schedule it, dig deep for it.

Sometimes you need to hunt for it. Sometimes you can only get a glimpse of it. Sometimes it’s buried. Deeply. Under years of forgetting. But off in the distance you hear something calling your name. It’s Joy.

Joy has been waiting for you to remember. To trace your steps back to where you left yours.

Underneath all of the "shoulds" and the "musts". Joy been waiting for you. Along with the dreams left strewn about.

It’s time to open wide and feel the gurgles of a new life begin to bubble within.

Looking forward to the future with the strength of one who knows the truth within. Who has earned the strength and won the biggest battle. Who dares to dream even wilder with newfound powers.

Childhood Dreams


Childhood Dreams

I often encourage people to dream. Dream as big as you possibly can I say. If it’s helpful, remember the things you once dreamed about when you were younger. Were they wild far-fetched things?

I remember when I was a kid, I wanted to be a vet. I also desperately wanted horses. As I got older, I grew away from these things. BUT, just last year, I had the opportunity to photograph a retreat that involved horse therapy.

While there, I remembered my love for horses. I realized that if I truly wanted to, I could in fact own a horse. I haven’t acted on it, but the point is that I could if I wanted to. What an empowering thought!

Our ability to dream makes the thing we desire even more possible, my friend.

What is it you truly want? What dreams did you leave behind as you grew into adulthood? How would it feel to give yourself the room to explore them again?

If you can, sit in meditation and connect with the dreams of your childhood. They may be buried, but I believe they are not lost.

There is Hope

I am here to tell you there is hope.

No matter how much darkness you are experiencing, there is always light. Even if you can’t see it. No matter how broken things may feel.

There is hope.

You are still worthy of everything you’ve always wanted. You still get to dream big.

No matter how far off the path you feel, all roads lead back to the same place. Where limitless possibilities exist. I’m talking about the true you.

You may not feel it right now, but trust me when I say there is light. Know that you are not alone. I see you. Whole and complete, imperfectly perfect you.

Meditation Wagon


Meditation Wagon

Recently I fell off the meditation wagon. When this happens I start drifting away from myself. It happens so slowly that I barely notice until I recognize the symptoms creeping up, like negativity, fear & reactivity. Once this happens I’ll realize what’s happening and make plugging in a priority again. I call it ‘plugging in’ because that’s what it feels like when I slow down, get quiet, and give myself the space to go within.

Meditation doesn’t always look like crossed legs and eyes closed. I think the most important part of meditation is the quiet time spent with self. Time spent realigning in whatever way feels good for you. Is this true meditation? Who cares! It’s valuable time spent reconnecting with breath. With life. With purpose. Recalibrating. Remembering. And TBH, I don’t think anyone can tell you what that looks like for you.

My goal as a meditation teacher is simply to create the space for others to do just this. I find that guided meditation is super helpful for easing the mind into peace. If you’re like me you may find resistance to the quiet. You may be afraid of what you’ll find in those moments of stillness. I love guiding meditation because I have felt those same things. The truth is, I still come up against resistance. And that’s okay. Because at the end of the day we’re all just doing our best.

What I know from this little pause in my practice is that nothing is more important than reconnecting in this way. That everything I desire begins within. Joy, Freedom, Love—all of it. And, I am humbly reminded once again, that meditating is my most important to-do. And I put it back on the list. IN BOLD!

Is there anything more important than maintaining alignment with the truth of who you are? The ego would have us believe that the answer is no. The heart knows better.
